Coat of Arms of the Netherlands

A visit to the Netherlands in 1990, we stopped in Volendam and we got dressed up! Herman Cevering, Leola Cevering, me and Lynn Cevering. Hermans parents are Dutch and he wanted to see Holland. I was their tourguide and we saw a lot of great things while we were there. We will never forget the experience. Herman is no longer with us now, so this photograph gets top billing!

My brother Tony, his wife Anne and my niece Laura also visited the Netherlands and of course ended up in the same shop to take this photo. I believe this was their first trip as a family to Holland. The picture on the right was also taken in Volendam, Holland in 1995. Volendam is a fishers village that has become quite touristic. Normally all kinds of items are being held by the people in the shot as you see on the left. However, I suggested that nothing would be added. This brought out the natural beauty of the ladies and their costumes. Don't you agree that they are just "GORGEOUS"?

These are homes on the Island of "MARKEN" it lies across from Volendam. 15 minutes by boat. A very picturesque little town. This is a view of the fishing boats in the harbor of "VOLENDAM". Fishing boats still go out daily to catch herring and other fish. An old painting is under this picture.
These photographs were copied out of a book: NATIONAL COSTUMES IN HOLLAND. The Netherlands National Open-air Folklore Museum (1951) by Riet Hijlkema The pictures shown below are costumes of the early 1900 era, the wearing of costumes is almost non-existant now. Some elders and at tourist hotspots and on holidays you might see them.
